Introducing Team Fundraising

Published
When someone joins a team, powerful things start to happen. They feel more confident, they feel supported and they raise more money. Our stats show that on average, being part of a team helps EVERY team member raise an extra $44 each! This shows there is huge power in uniting people to grow your income which is why we're so excited to share that we’ve added new Team Fundraising functionality your supporters.

So what is a fundraising team?  A fundraising team is a group of people - friends, family, colleagues, sports, etc coming together to raise money for a cause they care about. Each person and the team sets fundraising targets and they all work together to meet it.

10 reasons to turn on team fundraising
  1. Teams raise more.  There is huge power in uniting people around a common goal to not only grow income, but also improve the experience of your supporters.
  2. Teams tap into people's desire to be part of something.
  3. Teams give people new experiences to enjoy with their friends, family, colleagues etc.
  4. Teams encourage friendly competition and a bit of fun.
  5. Teams enable people with all sorts of fundraising experience to help your charity - a newbie in the team will find comfort being part of a group and not solely responsible for the fundraising target, whereas as seasoned fundraising pro will relish the status of being team captain and sharing their experience.
  6. No one likes to be alone.
  7. Joining a team is a good option for supporters new to your org - safety in numbers / less risky / commitment. Team members don't feel solely responsible for the target, so it’s not so daunting. A positive team experience can be a great introduction to fundraising. There is less anxiety around "the when you're making an ask from the team vs yourself.
  8. Teams do the heavy lifting. In Cycle and No Reg Fee events, teams raise 86% and 79% of donation revenue, respectively. In the Walk category, 93 cents of every dollar raised comes from teams. (According to the 2019 Blackbaud Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Study.)
  9. Teams are a great way to take advantage of groups that already exist – sponsors, local business partners, colleagues, schools, sports clubs, friends, families.
  10. A little friendly competition goes a long way. Who doesn’t love a good contest? Competition within teams or among teams is sure to get your supporters excited.  Built in team leaderboards are a great way to help facilitate this.

What we’re really excited about:
  • Mobile-friendly - Creating and managing a team is easy for your supporters on their phones
  • Leadership - Every team has a Team Captain so you can help them encourage the rest of the team
  • Branded - Your charity (or campaign) colors, logo, and images will carry through any time a supporter creates a Team Page
  • Motivating - Team leaderboards on your campaigns and team targets set by the Captain encourage friendly competition
  • Flexible – Team Captains can select whether they’d like their team to be open for anyone to join, or by invitation only
