How to stand out in the #GivingTuesday Noise

Published

What makes GivingTuesday effective for some and disappointing for others? Digital fundraising is all about a bi-directional, multi-channel relationship with your supporters, not spamming them with excessive emails and Facebook posts. What if what they really want is a safe, creative way to show support from the comfort of their own home?

Peer-to-Peer fundraising, when coupled with valuable social media marketing, addresses that human need for connection and belonging (in the days of the coronavirus and beyond).

In September, we connected with Doing Good Digital to learn more about how effective marketing can help your day of giving stand out. The webinar was one of our most popular P2P Giving sessions. You can watch the recording here or keep reading for some of my personal highlights.
  • Create consistent branding for all assets (Facebook cover photo, JustGiving campaign header photo, website pop up or slider image)
  • Craft 3-5 small/brief impact stories. These can either be short video clips or text shared graphically. Use them to post updates throughout GivingTuesday and/or as a teaser for the giving day.
  • Write a save the date email with the option to go ahead and give or fundraise today.
  • Draft your thank you email and social posts so all you have to do is share the final outcome.
  • Incorporate personal fundraising pages for GivingTuesday to increase supporter engagement. You can learn more by watching this quick, 30-minute webinar.
  • Pre-select or invite a few ambassadors for your day. Their participation can range from social media posts on their own channels (or takeovers), personal fundraising pages, storytelling, promotion, and more.
  • Post organically on social media to increase your exposure.
