Saving Time Through Lists and Dashboards

Published

Help your colleagues (and yourself at the same time) by setting up lists in webview and dashboards in database view for commonly requested metrics.

As DBA’s we’re pulled in many directions, constantly having to shift priorities to meet the data needs of our colleagues. Often, they are requesting updated numbers for something they asked for before.

In these cases, help them while helping yourself by setting up lists in webview or, for those times when the filters in Lists aren’t quite there yet, dashboards in the database view. This is especially useful in answering questions like – What’s our fundraising total year to date? What has XYZ event raised so far?

I meet with my colleagues annually to discuss their needs and I set up as many things as possible as a list or dashboard. This reduces the number of demands on my limited time and gives development staff access to their own metrics.

Over time, this builds independence and helps overcome reluctance to interact with RE/NXT.  I’ve seen  gift officers and admin staff go from never being in RE/NXT to always being logged in and monitoring their lists/dashboards.

Finally, a tip for people new to dashboards – you won’t find constituent as an available panel type in the list.  You have to choose Solicitor Query which will allow you to access constituent queries!

I'm finally comfortable enough to start playing around with dashboards. I realized this would be perfect for our Director of Major Gifts since she's always asking information about the major campaigns. Thanks for having this out here!
