Online Donations Automatically Applying A Matching Gift

Hi,

I am hoping someone can explain why when I bring over OLX donations into a batch, it seems that some donations automatically apply a matching gift to it based off the fact that the donor had previously matched a gift on their prior donation. Is this something I can turn-off in the setting in OLX or it is on the RE Databaseview side?

    @Jennifer Branstrom There is a checkbox in DB view for it! It is part of the relationship on the second tab (Gen 2). There should be a checkbox for matching gifts at the top. If you unclick it, it shouldn't automatically creating matching gifts for that constituent.

    I'm pretty sure that it is a setting in OLX as well, but I can't remember where it is right now.

    When I started with bringing gifts in I encountered a variety of issues. What I have since learned:

    • In our database, org relationships were created for employer (ex: 3M) and rarely MG entity (ex 3M Foundation). When MG is entered by donor with their online gift by name it frequently attempts to connect to their employer, not the MG entity. If this is not caught and corrected during data processing, a non-constituent MG record is created but not correct when MG $ received.
    • Have found other alumni are linked to past employers, some with a MG program, some no longer offer, or should not be linked as person is not a current or retired employee.
    • I just decided under my predecessor, things just got out of hand. We are working to clean up like @Dariel Dixon mentioned - unchecking MG box on employer and adding MG foundation at the MG entity when someone indicates they are submitting for a match.


    At some point I hope to run a list of all the records marked as MG companies and work with our MG info vender to clean up and update records. Just not a high priority yet.

    Great question to ask and process to understand how your org processes and tracks MG for constituents.
