“Do Not Mail” only for specific mailings

Some constituents want to opt out of specific mailings, not everything. Therefore marking their addresses as do not mail won’t work. Does anyone have a process in place for this?

Yes you can use consent- we did at first for this, but became complicated to manage, we now use constituent attributes with a table of a variety of combinations

@Daniel Wallach We use a variety of solicit codes for things like this. Codes like “Do Not Solicit” or “Do Not Mail Magazine” may be helpful, but you need to make sure you remember to exclude them in your mailing list queries.

@Daniel Wallach - I recommend having a constituent attribute for this; use solicit codes for overarching exclusions, attributes for the more specific exclusions.

You'll want to use either Attributes or Solicit codes for this purpose. I recommend Solicit codes, as they are more operable in Mail, function well with Consent using Business Rules, and keep your Attributes uncluttered for other data. We use a number of Solicit codes, such as “no newsletter”, “no gifts”, “+ event invites”, “no summer appeal", “no ask upgrades”, “no monthly gift appeal”, “no planned giving mailings”, “+ Christmas visits”, “email only”, etc etc. There's no end to the customization you can do to make sure each donor gets exactly the communications they want.

@Daniel Wallach Think through how you will pull this information as you create your system of tracking both what people DO want to receive versus what they DON'T want to receive. Too often when I do assessments, the fields have been added in a way where they can contradict one another and it is very hard to pull an accurate list as a result.
