Give to mulitple funds online - Any software recommendations?

Hey All,

We have a donor base that would like to give to multiple funds. I don't see a way to do this in Online Express (outside of a donor listing them in the 'other' category). Has anyone found a software that works with RENXT or just works?

  • Hi Dan, does your org have the NXT Online Donation forms? We haven't gone live with a page, as our gift processor hasn't used batches in NXT yet but from setting up an example form this supports giving to multiple funds on the single form and choosing from the drop down of funds listed on the form.
  • Thanks Elizabeth! I saw some older posts online and didn't think this was still a possiblity. Thanks for the screen shot, looks exactly as I was hoping.

  • If you have NetCommunity, one of their forms also allows for this, but I think I've also confirmed that Online Express can't do that except by listing them in the other category as you mentioned.
  • Thanks Heather. We don't have NetCommunity. So far rhe NXT donation form fits the bill, but I am noticing some gift entry issues that we'd need to navigate.

I haven't used the more than 1 fund option in NXT yet, so I'm not sure how the campaigns come across - that may be something to check after the gifts have been committed to RE.
  • We have this set up on our donation forms through NXT donation forms. Overall it works well. It does create a split gift in the batch. The biggest issue we have is that there is no Campaign automatically assigned so you have to edit the split gift and add the Campaign to each split. When you do this, it drops the fund, so you end up adding the Campaign and re-entering the fund. It takes a couple of extra clicks for gift entry, but has made our donors very happy.
  • Carrie,

Thanks for this. Yes, we learned of all the short commings in our testing. Its real unfortunate. Most of it could be overcome if when the gifts are pulled into database view they came into an uncommitted batch so we could easily edit. With the batch already committed and in the record in such an incomplete way, its a non-starter for us. :(

I realize this is a very old post, but I'm having a similar issue. When I use Attributes as a custom field in a donation form, I get a list of funds with check boxes instead of a dropdown menu. Any help on how to create dropdown menus on forms would be greatly appreciated.

@Tracey Thompson I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish? How are these attributes supposed to be used in the form? Can you post a screenshot?

not sure what donation platform you are using, but for Online Express when selecting attribute, if the attribute is table entry and that it is unique, you get dropdown (unique allow only one selected). however, if your attribute not unique (allow multiple), then you get a checkbox, allowing multiple to be selected. it is all in your attribute configuration

  • @Dariel Dixon We have list of 73 funds and wanted to be able to nest dropdown boxes. For example, If I choose Athletics (attribute) then the list of 21 funds under Athletics would appear in a drop box. Further, I need the donor to be able to split gifts between more than one team under Athletics. Aside from Athletics, we also have funds that fall under Clubs, Arts, and Classes. There doesn't appear to be a way to allow donors to designate across those categories.

@Tracey Thompson No, what you're trying to do is not possible. You can't link the available funds to an attribute. You have to just decide which funds you list. It might be better to just list a general fund like “Athletics”, and then use comments to filter down.

Online Express does not allow for conditional questions by default. every question is either going to be required or optional.

You cannot do if Athletics show question 2 (drop down for fund related to athletics), or show question 3 if something else is selected.

You CAN, if you have the “real” webdev person (one that knows how to code in JavaScript and CSS, not just know how to use WordPress) in your org, use Javascript and CSS to “create” the conditional questions. However, this is only going to be gift attribute when processed, the fund is still not going to change, I think you probably already know this. Your gift processing team will need to use the gift attribute's answer to select the right fund.

  • @Alex Wong and @Dariel Dixon Thank you for your quick responses. Looks like what I'd like to do isn't possible….back to the drawing board…
