Detaching Reviewer Template?

We currently review applications with our reviewer template attached to each opportunity.  I'm considering detaching the template so that I can better customize the weight of the review scores so that they align more accurately with the scholarship fund criteria.  For example, if extra-curricular activity is not a criterion of an opportunity, then I'd weight that reviewer rubric score lower.  Likewise, if academic success was extremely important to the scholarship fund criteria, I'd weight that rubric higher.  I'd have to detach the reviewer template to each opportunity and weight rubrics according to the opportunity. I know this is irreversible so I want to be careful. Has anyone done this?  Or, does anyone have any thoughts or insights about this?  We are a community foundation so may be a little different than educational institutions.
