Mobile phone required - Why?

I see on the BBCon registration form a Cell Phone is required.  To what extent is this going to be used?  Why can't cell phone be optional and communication come through email?

I have not received anything on my cell phone from BBCON. All correspondence has been via email. Hope this helps.

If it's anything like prior years (and who knows what Covid will do to us before October?), it will be essential for during the conference.  The one year I've been, it would have been nearly impossible to exist during the conference without it, and it certainly enhanced my experience.  It's a community experience during the conference plus has the schedules for everything and additional information such as a powerpoint of the presentation from that class/lecture.  I don't remember it being anything to me prior to the conference itself.


Asking that in the registration may have been their way of figuring out how much to do that's available other ways such as emails.
