Calculated Fields using GPA/ACT

Hello everyone,


In our system, we're trying to find the best way to go about this process and are looking at the possibility of using calculated fields.  We are wanting to keep track of the division of students using a matrix of GPA and ACT scores to segment students into different sections.  So as an example, a student with a 3.0 GPA and a 25 ACT would get an ID value of 3 so we would know what that student is.  This matrix would use the idea of "If between 3.0 and 3.5 GPA, and 24-28 ACT Composite, Student Score is 3" along the whole spectrum of the GPA and ACT score values.  Has anyone had any success with this concept using calculated fields?
