Monthly Donors - 3rd Party Giving Site

Hi,

Before we started using Online Express for our Monthly Donor program, they used Network for Good, which is still active. I am curious to see if anyone had success converting their monthly donors from a 3rd Party giving site to Online Express/NetCommunity/Luminate. I was told they "tried' to do this in the past and had no luck getting their Network for Good donors to switch over, not sure if they did not respond or said no. ?‍♀️

@Lauren Fardella, I think due the the security around card information it would be hard to switch from one processor to another. The only time we have been able to have a transition like this is when we were transferring from one Stripe account (Evertrue) to another Stripe account (GiveCampus).

  • Dan Snyder‍ we would be terminating Network For Good and creating new gifts for those monthly donors via Online Express. It would have to be done manually and with the donor consent, which is where we are struggling to figure out how to reach out to the donors, as I believe they sent letters out a few years ago for them to resubmit their donations so we can begin processing them through OLX.

Yeah, that's tricky when they don't respond. Sorry to not be much more help and good luck!

We are in the middle of doing this! Our monthly donors are/were split between CanadaHelps, internal via NXT/BBMS, and then we used to use Shopify for our online giving so lots are on there. We are fine with the CanadaHelps donors, but really want to move the Shopify folks. We started with creating a mail merged email, acknowledging their gift amount etc, and letting them know we have a new processor that will have lower fees and therefore make their gift go farther, but we would need them to fully re-enter a gift. Due to CC security, we need them to reenter their gift on OLX, then we can internally cancel them on Shopify. About 25% responded to the initial email. A second email got the number down to 50% transferred over. Now, we start making phone calls!

  • @Aldera Chisholm that is great to hear! What happens to the donors that absolutely won't respond?

@Lauren Fardella That's a great question. Our goal is to get all the calls completed before mid August (all our monthlies charge on the 15th.) The Shopify service charges a monthly fee so there will be a point where we won't want to pay that fee for a limited number of monthly donors. We'll be doing one-to-one communications with each of those donors and letting them know that unless we hear from them, we'll have to pause their support. It's awkward, but it does ensure we have active communication with these donors for stewardship purposes - which in the long run we feel worth it. As an aside, we have had a significant number of our donors increase their monthly gift as part of the transition, which has been fantastic.
