Membership & Development Manager in Dallas, TX

The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth has an opening on its dynamic team for a full-time Membership and Development Manager. This person will be a key part of our membership cultivation and donor relationship-building team. Membership and Development Manager is a multifaceted role requiring skills in member relations, reporting and analysis, program implementation, benefit fulfillment, and overall data management. We are seeking an individual with strong attention to detail, deadlines, and customer service. This is an external-facing position interacting with the Council’s members, donors, and the public.

We're looking for a dependable, deadline-oriented, and creative self-starter who is also a collaborator, a quick learner, and thrives in a high-productivity organization. This position requires a highly-skilled organizer and communicator who can manage multiple projects and deadlines, generate ideas, recruit members, and steward the Council’s relationship with members and donors.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Membership program management – Implements best strategies in stewardship, renewal and upgrading of current members, acquiring new members, and program attendee conversion. Executes our current membership program services, benefits, and policies relating to retention and acquisition of members and coordinates benefit fulfillment. Recommends and implements changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency. Represents the Council with members and in the community, including speaking publicly for the organization in a recruiting role.
  • Member stewardship and cultivation – Serves as a primary point of contact for membership inquiries, new membership and renewal processing, ticket purchases, and grievance resolution. Executes acknowledgment process for membership, sponsorship, and annual fund gifts. Assists in cultivation of Council members to increase annual and major gifts in concert with the Membership & Development team.
  • Development data management – Initiates and tracks acknowledgments, database entry, and administrated tasks for the development team. Develops, promotes and documents best practices and policies associated with member and prospect management. Works in concert with the Director of Database Administration in maintaining security, accuracy, and integrity of database.
  • Foundation and grant programs support – Maintains strong working knowledge of funding/grant cycles, deadlines, eligibility, requirements, updates, and funder reporting. Assists Membership & Development Director to nurture and maintain relationships with funding organizations.
  • Reporting and data analysis – Generates reports to measure results of membership and development campaigns, overall membership retention and growth, and reports to grantors. Monitors progress towards revenue goals and provides reports for senior management.
  • Direct response traffic management – Executes membership and development strategies driving integrated mail, online and telephone campaigns to acquire, upgrade, and renew members and donors. Maintains schedule of solicitations and cultivations.
  • Team scheduling – Assists with calendar planning for the President & CEO and Vice President of Membership & Development.
  • Collaborative efforts – Partners with marketing team to implement membership promotions, partnerships and communications, and enhanced program attendee conversion. Monitors membership pages on the Council’s website.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years professional experience in areas of membership, development, grants, database management, etc.
  • A demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service is required. This position frequently requires tact and diplomacy. Membership and development staff frequently attend our events, often on evenings or weekends.
  • Strong experience in database management, data analytics, or customer relationship management systems is required; experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge is preferred.
  • Experience with the grants cycle.
  • The ideal candidate has strong oral and written communication skills, is detail-oriented, is a critical thinker, is highly organized, is a problem solver, is collaborative, has high energy and excellent time management skills, and is highly ethical. These qualities are required.
  • Event planning knowledge preferred.
  • Interest in current and world affairs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the Council’s mission.
