Role: Freelance Grant Writer (Contract)

Summary:

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) seeks an experienced freelance grant writer to research, write, and manage grants from institutional funders. The grant writer will increase our philanthropic partnerships by securing grant funding for Girl Scout mission-driven activities, including Girl Scout programs, event sponsorships, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and community engagement programming. The grant writer will also support the Senior Director of External Affairs in developing relationships with grant prospects.

Grant funding is a key element in supporting our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. The focus of this contract assignment is on producing successful, high-quality grant proposals to institutional funders, providing precise and clear information, and strategic recommendations based on experience, relationships, and research.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, write and submit grant proposals/applications, additional reporting requirements, and letters of intent to institutional funders, including foundations, corporations, and the United Way.
  • Conduct in-depth research and identify grant opportunities.
  • Assist in establishing and stewarding strong relationships with institutional funders to promote partnerships.
  • Maintain on-going reporting of grant opportunities, including grants applied for, status of applications, submission deadlines, presentation dates, required materials, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to implement, allocate, manage, steward, and evaluate grant outcomes.
  • Reach fundraising goals through grant writing and securing mission-focused philanthropic gifts.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of freelance grant writing work experience, demonstrating competency in development functions related to grant writing and grant management.
  • Proven track record of securing and retaining grants.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database experience with Raiser’s Edge.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication with exceptional attention to detail.
