A New Year is Almost Upon Us!

I'm thinking of what I thought the years 2020 and beyond would look like when I was a kid. Seems the Jetsons made a big impact on me, as I thought we'd all be in flying cars by now with robot assistants like Rosey. I think we've made so many incredible scientific strides since I was a child in the 80's. Curious, what did you think 2020 and beyond would be like when you were younger?

I feel like I thought the 2020s were a far off “The Future” kind of date and since it was “The Future” it would be more futuristic than it seems to me now - although saying that, there have been so many technological etc developments that if I were to hold 1990 up against 2020 side by side I am sure I would perceive the difference more strongly.

Other than that…. as a Star Trek fan, I know there was a couple of Deep Space Nine episodes set in the 2020s and that depicted wealth disparity, homelessness and rioting to draw attention to and address inequality along with the usual advanced technology.

Back to the Jetsons - I read somewhere that George Jetson was due to be born next year!

I remember when I was a kid and went to a science museum. They had a presentation about what we could expect in the future. Everyone was wearing disposable foil garments!

I thought the future would look more like The Matrix movies, but I haven't seen anyone in a big ol' trench coat since my goth days in high school. And the only red pills I take are Sudafed from time to time. Sheesh, so lame.

Crystal, I am from the older kids than the 80's and the Jetson flying cars was the future even in our eyes. With us going to the moon, I would have thought space travel as a whole like Star Trek would have been in 2020. At times, it seems like we are going backwards.
