Development Services Associate

The Development Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson, located in Clifton, New Jersey, is seeking a part time-staff person to serve as Development Services Associate.

Located in Northern New Jersey, the Diocese of Paterson is comprised of 109 Catholic parishes serving the faithful throughout the counties of Morris, Passaic and Sussex. There are numerous Catholic Charities programs throughout the Diocese serving tens of thousands of people in need each year.

The Development Office is responsible for the fundraising efforts of the Diocese, specifically the annual Diocesan Ministries Appeal which helps support our Catholic Charities programs, seminarian education, inner-city area Catholic education and senior priest healthcare including Nazareth Village, our residence for retired diocesan clergy.

The Development Services Associate is a part-time position - 15 hours a week throughout the majority of the year which increases to 20-25 hours per week for approximately 3 months of the year during the active phase of the Diocesan Ministries Appeal. Only candidates with a good working knowledge of Raisers Edge and the ability to run queries, exports and reports will be considered. The candidate must also have a high level of proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point. This work requires that the candidate be on-site rather than work virtually.

Responsibilities:

Gift Processing

  1. Responsible for entering all credit card donations (one-time gifts and pledges) and pledge payments into Raiser’s Edge accurately and in a timely manner.
  2. Responsible for recording all credit card donations via online giving page and in-house which involve implementing gift installments every 15th of the month; including running regular reports to determine outstanding pledges, and reconciling pledges installments.
  3. Responsible for major donor and priest gift acknowledgments; including generating, proofing, and updating letters.
  4. Generate Diocesan Ministries Appeal rebates letters and create new templates as assigned.
  5. Responsible for the accuracy of the clergy mailing list in Raiser’s Edge.
  6. Perform other database duties as needed.
  7. Provide data entry support during the active phase of the Diocesan Ministries Appeal, especially during the In-Pew portion of the Appeal.

Research

  1. Using a variety of resources, conduct donor research on individuals, foundations, and corporations, and write confidential research profiles that summarize donor capacity and inclination, and analyze financial and philanthropic information.

Administrative Support

  1. Creates and maintains donor lists as needed.
  2. Maintains donor files both in the office and digitally.
  3. Assist with Development Department events.
  4. Other administrative duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Education:

  • At least three (3) years of professional development experience.
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, including experience running queries, exports, and reports with an interest in expanding these skills.
  • Excellent organizational ability, analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy, and attention to detail, along with demonstrated interest in learning and improving skills.
  • Strength in effectively managing time and taking initiative, and proven ability to work collaboratively on a small team with concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, combined with demonstrated interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.
