Director, Annual Giving - UT Medical Center (Knoxville, TN)

Position Summary:
Seeking an experienced development professional with a proven track record of creating innovative and compelling annual giving programs to support the overall impactful philanthropic initiatives at the The University of Tennessee Medical Center and UT Graduate School of Medicine.
This position is responsible for creative and innovative management and execution of all annual giving initiatives for The University of Tennessee Medical Center and UT Graduate School of Medicine. In collaboration with the Executive Director, responsibilities include meeting or exceeding the annual giving fundraising goals; acknowledging, stewarding and growing annual giving contributions; representing the organization to donors, vendors, and the public; and producing various fundraising-related collateral. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and willing to take complete ownership of critical duties.
The Director will be managed by and report to the Executive Director, Development Operations at UT Medical Center and UT Graduate School of Medicine.
- Responsible for the management and implementation of the Annual Giving program
- Works with the Executive Director to establish long-term goals and objectives
- Manages a portfolio of prospects for leadership annual giving with the goals of growing the number of $1000-$9,999 donors and identifying opportunities for major and planned gifts
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts from individuals by maintaining frequent contact with current annual giving donors and developing new relationships with prospects
- Manages the Team Member Giving Campaign, including all campaign solicitation and stewardship communications
- Works in conjunction with Database Operations and Major Gifts team to identify, qualify and cultivate prospects and donors identified through the Grateful Patient Program.
- Coordinates the development of printed materials used to promote and solicit annual giving contributions
- Oversees annual giving solicitation calendar to ensure key deadlines are met and communications are coordinated with appropriate timing with one another
- Engages with Centers of Excellence and other department leaders to identify annual giving program opportunities
- Explores and vets new technologies/trends in annual giving to develop strategies to increase the annual acquisition, retention and net growth in both dollars raised and number of donors
- Develops and manages content and structure of online giving websites, ensuring that the content and structure is updated and compelling
- Works in close coordination with the Director, Operations on annual giving prospect research and outreach
- Explores opportunities to engage UTGSM alumni in support of educational programming and research
- Provides support to other departmental activities and campaigns as needed
Position Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven success in identifying and soliciting funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations from a variety of sources and in developing relationships with donors.
- Proven track record of working with high net-worth individuals and C-Suite executives as part of special event.
- A record of measurable results in organizing and implementing such activities as annual gifts, direct mail, and special events.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to write clear and persuasive proposals.
- Excellent time management skills and a high degree of organization, careful attention to detail, ability to multitask and to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing demands, while maintaining a commitment to excellence.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines with short turn-around times.
- Ability to quickly and regularly adjust strategy based on giving trends.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly with use of relational databases, especially Blackbaud products (CRM, Raiser's Edge) or other similar products.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
