Manager Prospect Research & Portfolio Management Detroit

The Manager, Research & Prospect Development is responsible for a variety of activities intended to identify, understand and engage major and principal gift prospects. This position supervises the Research & Prospect Development team and is responsible for overseeing activities related to prospect research, prospect management, wealth screening, and analytics. This position works closely with the Major Giving team to define and track strategies for major and principal gift prospects. This position works closely with the Campaign team to define the prospect pool used to develop campaign projections.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor and Patient Research Databases

Direct and oversee all activity of the Sr. Prospect Researcher(s); manage all current donor and patient research database systems within the Development Office; maintain the data structure and develop policies for data management and use of the database; and work with the prospect research related vendors to obtain appropriate research tools.

Responsible for the coordination of all research data for all Development Office locations including Jackson, Wyandotte, West Bloomfield, Detroit and Macomb; work with the research product vendor’s technical support and HFHS IT to coordinate the installations of any upgrades and patches as needed to research related products.

Major Gift Officer Portfolio Management

Lead the Research & Prospect Development team to work with gift officers to build and manage prospect portfolios. This includes strategically distributing prospects to ensure gift officers have a quality pool of prospects, periodically reviewing portfolios with gift officers to identify prospects to remove or reassign, and working with gift officers to define and track strategies of their prospects using the donor database.

Moves Management and Strategy Development

Work with Development Office leadership and gift officers to plan next steps for top major and principal giving prospects. Manage these next steps within the donor database and work with leadership and gift officers to ensure next steps are occurring on schedule.

Prospect Research

Screen, identify and evaluate major and principal giving prospects. Recommend prospects for major gift officer assignment. Generate, with assistance from Senior Prospect Researcher, profiles and prospect analysis indicating biographical, philanthropic, professional, important relationships and financial information on prospects. Supervise the preparation of event bios. Perform quantitative analysis of financial information to generate giving capacity ratings.

Data Analytics

Oversee and improve the Development Office’s Data Analytics program. This program uses statistical modeling to uncover likely prospects based on prospect behaviors, past giving patterns, wealth capacity, demographic information and other prospect characteristics.

Prospect Identification for Campaign and Major Fundraising Initiatives

This position will have a broad role in building the prospect pipeline for fundraising campaigns and other fundraising initiatives. This will include significant activities related to the health system’s next multi-year, multi-faceted comprehensive campaign. This position works with others in the Development Office leadership to proactively identify prospects and ensure high level prospects have an appropriate strategy for cultivation.

This position will also assess and quantify the prospect pool to enable the production of prospect tables and other assessment metrics which will assist in setting goals for campaigns and major fundraising initiatives. This position will also produce reports allowing Development leadership to understand prospect counts by capacity, by region, and by fundraising objective.

Data Management

Supervise and coordinate all functions related to research data management including data entry into the donor databases; report design and development; data analysis and the implementation of new systems. This position oversees the coordination of analysis, design and implementation of new database research projects; data integrity related to all research data management activities; and reporting intended to monitor/measure the progress of prospect identification activities.

Reporting and Analysis

Develop and maintain a reporting system to measure the research and prospect identification activity of the Development Office; manage donor, prospect and other historical data in the database; work with senior Development Office staff to develop prospect tracking, fundraising analysis and measurement reports; generate ad-hoc reports for use in analyzing fundraising efforts and identifying potential major gift prospects; present measurement reports and data analysis to senior Development staff.

Oversee the coordination with external vendors utilized for research and prospect management report development and other reporting needs; supervise and manage all activities of the Sr. Prospect Researcher(s); work with senior Development staff to determine report needs and set priorities for the development of all research and prospect reports.

EFFECTS AND RESULTS:

The effect of this position is to significantly help enhance the fundraising effort of the Development Office. A successful Prospect Research & Portfolio Management program will help the Development Office achieve its overall goals by providing the senior Development staff access to the relevant, accurate and timely information related to a donor or prospect’s biographical information, giving trends, giving capacity and relationship to the System. A good research information system will ultimately help Henry Ford Health System improve patient care, research and education by providing the information necessary to secure critical philanthropic support for top priority programs and projects throughout the System. Also, ensuring the integrity of all data captured in the donor database will allow a better flow of accurate information to Development leadership, which will become a fundamental building block from which key decisions will be made and reported.

This is a critical position in a comprehensive fundraising program, which will identify new opportunities for increased philanthropic funds and help increase the number of donors that will ultimately benefit the patient care, medical research and education mission of HFHS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in fundraising with increasing responsibility.
