International Cat Day!

Meow, y'all! It's International Cat Day. I've also got bbcon 2022 on my brain this morning, so why not combo International Cat Day = bbcon = this thread! You can also post a pic of your fur baby below and let us know how he/she got her name. I'm always fascinated with pet name origin stories!

@Crystal Bruce here's my favorite girl (shhhh! Don't tell the other 3!). Tillie Pickle. I honestly have no IDEA why we named her that, but it stuck. We have a whole bunch of weird cat names in this house. Tillie is a neurotic freak, but she's absolutely my best friend. I've had her since she was super young, she was a rescue as a kitten and when I got her I used to have to drive home from work at lunch and feed her, as she had to eat every few hours. Or I'd bring her to work with me. :) She is 12 now.

  • @Crystal Bruce - I miss having a cat in the house. It has been 9 years since our “baby” passed away. Yes, her name was baby. We have a dog now, so I get my cat loving at my son's house. He has 4 cats for me to snuggle with.

    Banjo

@Crystal Bruce Meet Banjo! I used to work at an animal shelter, so when I adopt I always go for the ones with medical issues, as I know they are the hardest to place usually. Banjo joined my family in 2018, and is now about 11 years old. The shelter I got him from in Ohio rescued him from a shelter in West Virginia, and he has stomatitis among other issues. But we love him and just couldn't bring ourselves to change the name of a West Virginia cat named Banjo! Here he is “helping” me read, he also “helps” my boyfriend, an engineer, when he rolls out his blueprints for work.

Yikes, I don't think I can post all our catbaby pictures on here. We've got 16 of them, thanks to a couple of neighbor strays that gifted us kittens in our shed. I used to tease our “Cat Whisperer” coworker about how many cats he had. But now I'm the one getting the “farm discount” when I take them all in to get spayed. ?

Our oldest cat, Joby, is a fourteen-year-old, grey and white longhair. I really have no idea how he got his name. He's been with my husband since before we were married, so of our 16 cats, he's the one who gets to be pampered indoors!

  • @Mary Zieten I love seeing other people's pets. My husband is allergic, and our house was pretty full of people until recently, so I don't have any pets…for now.
