Job Summary
The Office of Advancement at Oberlin College seeks applications for the position of Leadership Giving Officer. This is a full-time, continuing, 12-month, Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Associate Vice President for Leadership and Planned Giving.
Responsibilities
The Leadership Giving Officer acts as a donor relationship manager who plans and implements strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of outright and deferred gifts of $50,000 or more to Oberlin College.
Essential Job Functions
- In partnership with the Advancement Operations staff, maintain a portfolio of approximately 250 leadership gift prospects ($50,000+ gift capacity) and make a minimum of 150 face-to-face visits per year.
- Document cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans and outcomes for prospects and when appropriate involve other colleagues within Advancement as well as faculty, deans, senior administrators and volunteers; cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni and friends capable of contributing outright or deferred leadership gifts.
- Maintain a robust and active pipeline of leadership gift proposals and negotiate and structure complex gifts to the College.
- Develop in-depth gift proposals using written explanations and oral presentations.
- Development of proposals may be collaborative effort with colleagues in Planned Giving and Advancement Operations.
- Have knowledge of tax and estate law basics in order to propose plans and initiate gift conversations with donors and their advisors.
- Participate in special events—reunions, commencement, and donor recognition events—on and off campus.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required—advanced degree desirable.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in leadership gifts fundraising, relationship management, or related field, preferably in higher education.
- An understanding of, and technical expertise in, estate planning and tax laws affecting charitable and deferred giving.
- Travel frequently and work weekends and evenings when appropriate.
