Events and Traditions in Your City
Wuzzup Tappers!
My family and I are headed to a balloon glow tonight as part of our city's Gaslight Festival. Of course, everyone knows about the Kentucky Derby, but I feel like there's tons of little annual events that make Louisville extra cool. Zombie Walks, World Fests, Louder than Life, Dragon Boat races, and enough freakin' bourbon-centric things that your entire body will remain 80-proof for the rest of your life.
What awesome things go on in your part of the world?

Ray named all mine because I'm also in Charleston, so I will snag one from Austin, Texas because I resided there for a year. They have a Pun Championship where people from all over the world come to compete in a Pun-off. I'm horrible at puns, but it was so fun to watch!5 -
@Crystal Bruce OMG, a pun championship?!?! I freakin' need to go!

Dragon boat races and pun championships? So much fun!!We've got the Apple Blossom Festival, Pony Express Pumpkinfest, Trails West historical re-enactments, Christmas Arts Extravaganza, and usually several rodeos and barn dances throughout the year.
Here at our small seminary campus, our students celebrate a May Day tradition where a handful of the students sneak out at night and anonymously prank the campus. Stories from the ancient past have included sheep in the President's suite and golf carts parked in the classroom building, but these days they usually keep things more respectable with balloon cascades and phony “Missing Person” pictures pasted across the chocolate milk cartons. After that, they spend the afternoon in sports and races. My favorite race is the one where they have to spin around with a bat until they're dizzy and then try to run across a soccer field without falling down. ?

While I hesitate to say I live in a city (we are a more cows than people town) every year on the first Saturday of April we have the April Fools' Race which is a fundraiser for the Rotary club and a school club. There is a 5K, 10K, and one mile kids run. I am not always in shape, but I always complete it.3 -

@Bobby Steurer Miami and Miami Beach have tons of large events. They tend to be too big for me to want to attend. Probably the most popular are
Calle Ocho street festival
Coconut Grove Arts Festival
Art Basel
Art Deco Festival

@Bobby Steurer Love the comment about Louisville! Cincinnati is home to so much fun. Here are just a few:
- Opening Day! Seriously an unofficial holiday celebrating our Redlegs
- Flying Pig Marathon, a qualifier for the Boston marathon
- Riverfest on Sunday of Labor Day weekend, our big fireworks display
- BLINK incorporates so many lights and projections in artistic ways you would not normally consider
- Bunbury Music Festival
- Cincinnati Music Festival
- Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens
- Tall Stacks hasn’t been around for some years but was a great collection of riverboats
- Newport, KY, right across the river from downtown Cincy, has a food festival almost every weekend in the summer. GoettaFest is one of the bigger ones.

The thing I wish we had in my town is cheese-rolling.

@Rachel Cavalier Netflix has a little series called We Are the Champions that details different “odd” championships around the world. Have you seen the episode on this one? It's awesome!

@Bobby Steurer I need to check that out! Sounds intriguing

@Miki Martin, I have to know more about the Flying Pig Marathon. Any chance that's related to the Fainting Goat Festivals I've heard about? ?
