bbcon 2023 - Denver - What do you want to see while there?

I'm really excited about being together in person (& hybrid!) for next year's bbcon! Besides all that the conference has to offer, what are you most excited to see and do while there?

There are some amusement parks, plenty of fantastic natural offerings, lots of arts & culture as well as sights for sports fans. I'm excited to explore downtown as well.

And for those of you who remember #nodessertatbbcon, rest assured that there are some great dessert options in Denver!

Share your thoughts and drop some links for can't miss things to do while there!

@Carlene Johnson I too am really excited about the potential for in person (& hybrid) next year. I have been to Colorado for about 13 years and I'm hoping to fit in a trip to the Boulder/Longmont area and Estes Park either before or after (as soon as I take a second to see if they have set dates)

Native Denverite here! There are tons of great things to see, many of them close to the convention hotels. The RiNo Arts District is a cool place with several breweries, some cool galleries, and restaurants. It's also a cool place to see tons of murals on walls of the old buildings.
For culture, check out Denver Botanic Gardens. It's a short Uber ride or even ride a Lyft bike or take the #10 bus. The Kirkland Museum is a little known gem and well worth the visit. Denver Art Museum is top notch too.
Denver is known for it's beer and there are too many breweries to list so just Google what's close and you can't go wrong, unless you are in Golden and Google finds Coors.?

If you're looking for a cool place to stay, that's a 1 mile walk to the Convention, check out this AirBnB. It's in Denver's oldest neighborhood, Curtis Park. It's also super close to RiNo.

Getting from the airport is fast and easy on the A Line. Don't bother with Uber or cabs. The train will drop you at Union Station which is really cool on its own. From there, it's an easy walk to all the hotels.

Downtown can be nice, and the 16th Street Mall has been popular. But I encourage you to get away from that part of the city. Visit LoDo for bars and dining, and some shopping. Larimer Square is close and nice too. For a local scene get to South Broadway and be sure to hit up Sweet Action Ice Cream. Or visit Capitol Hill and City O' City for vegetarian food that will blow you mind.

@Carlene Johnson having the luxury of attending the conference in-person for the first time in Denver is what I'm most looking forward to! Extending my trip for extracurriculars is not an option.

@Rob Price thank you so much for providing this information! Transportation from the airport was one of my big questions to get answered.

@Rob Price How far is Union Station from the Embassy suites?

@Marie Stark Union Station is about a 15-17 min walk from the Embassy Suites, but there's a stop right across from the Convention Center, so you can take the rail there (and also make a stop at Union Station).

@Nikki Baldwin @Marie Stark It's just under 1 mile from Union Station to the hotel and the convention center. The stop across from Embassy Suites is not the same line as the airport train and you can't easily transfer from one to the other. No trains from Union Station go anywhere else in downtown. There is also a free shuttle on the 16th Street Mall. But there is so much construction right now that with the detours, it would probably take you longer than walking.

    @Rob Price Thank you.

  • @Rob Price would you suggest to Uber to the Embassy if the flight is arriving after 9pm?

@Jen Dittrich, Yes. It might be more comfortable to Uber if it's dark. It's a fairly safe city but I can understand that some people may not feel safe taking that walk alone in the dark. Less than 1 mile, should be a cheap ride.
If you travel light, or carry a back pack, Lyft has a bike share that is quite easy to use.

@Carlene Johnson I'm taking a few extra days pre-event and am going to do some hiking one day (Denver has amazing public transport to trails) and go to the botanical garden one day. Then just spend one day wanderinig!

Also, I would LOOOOOOOOVE to hit up an escape room, so if anyone is going to be there early and wants to go to Rabbit Hole or 303, or any of the others, let me know!!!
