Development Associate
Building Changes seeks a Development Associate to support the Development Team in implementing successful fundraising efforts to sustain Building Changes' mission. This position reports to the Development Director. While we are currently employing a hybrid work model, our office is based in Seattle, and applicants must be willing to work within Washington State.

Responsibilities of this position will include:
- Administration and Data Management (~50 %)
- Manage Salesforce data entry, donor records, donor correspondence, and maintain quality control.
- Create and manage campaigns and reports in Salesforce; create lists/segments for donor appeals and email campaigns; and monitor and analyze donor data.
- Work with Accounting department to reconcile monthly Salesforce donation entries with accounting records.
- Oversee Daily Receipts process for Development, including pulling donation reports from various donation platforms, entering donation data into Salesforce, and sending donor tax receipts as needed.
- Provide administrative support to Building Changes' Board Development Committee, including scheduling and communication with board members, compiling agendas, and taking meeting minutes.
- Donor Relations, Communications, and Events (~25%)
- Implement annual appeal campaigns and other fundraising activities, including creating and sending email campaigns and coordinating direct mail appeals, workplace giving campaigns, etc.
- Draft communications for donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
- Conduct research and prospecting for identified sponsors and donors; assess and report on giving potential among current sponsors and donors.
- Support the production of effective in-person and virtual events agency-wide, as assigned, including content briefings for our funders.
- Fundraising Strategy Support and Research (~15%)
- Work with Institutional Giving Officer to track and update prospective institutional giving opportunities in Salesforce.
- Work with Development Director to track current and prospective major individual donors and corporate sponsors, including use of Salesforce to inform the creation of new campaigns and document outcomes.
- Identify and develop additional opportunities for individuals, businesses, and institutional funders to support Building Changes' work, as guided by Institutional Giving Officer and Development Director.
- Collaborate with other staff to gather information necessary for funding applications or funder events.
- Other Duties (~10%)
- Ensure development efforts reflect Building Changes' commitment to promote racial equity, social justice, and inclusion, and our approach to addressing youth and family homelessness (encompassing practice and policy implementation, research, and advocacy).
- Represent Building Changes to community partners and the broader public by acting in alignment with our values of Equity, People, Partnerships, and Integrity.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following:
Capacity and desire to lean into antiracist work with Building Changes colleagues and external partners.
Critical thinker who is highly motivated, organized, creative, and flexible.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Administrative experience and a demonstrated attention to detail.
Experience with donor database management. Salesforce experience a significant plus.
Experience creating and sending mass email campaigns. Campaign Monitor experience a significant plus.
Experience supporting events.
Experience in fund development.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
Ability to work on projects independently, maintain self-motivation, and persist in the face of challenges.
Knowledge of Washington State's philanthropic community desired.
