April Fools' Day - yay or nay?

Does anyone really get into the spirit of April Fools' Day – or are you in the camp of hoping the day will pass with no pranks?

Another question: What's the best prank you played or that someone played on you?

@Carrie Powell - It's a nay for me, not really a fan of pranks.

@Carrie Powell I'd have to agree with @Austen Brown. I've never been a fan of the day.

  • @Carrie Powell - I'm not a fan of pranks, either. However, if you want to toss some puns out there, I'm all for those. ?

  • I'm glad to know I'm not the only spoilsport in the bunch!

It is a big NAY for me. I just find the whole thing stressful because I feel like I constantly need to question reality.

I stay away from the news and social media until after 12 noon, and then it's safe to see what April Fool's japes those in the UK have gotten up to. Not sure if the rest of the world has the tradition that if you do your trickery after noon, it makes you the fool.

I do enjoy hearing about the good natured ones from the past though - like the spaghetti tree story.

  • @Rachel Cavalier Umm, I have two spaghetti trees in my backyard. It's why we have a surplus of pasta-based dishes in my house. Must not be native to you all over there. ?‍♂️

Nay! Not a fan of April fool's day.

  • @Carrie Powell I'm all for a harmless, light-hearted prank that everyone involved can enjoy. ? I admire the creativity some folks come up with.

I like a good laugh, but we don't generally hone in on April Fool's Day. And I'm not a fan of cutting or insensitive humor.

We have a tradition where the students celebrate on “May Day”, what we call the Friday before graduation. We staff enjoy walking the campus the next morning to witness all the "decorations" before they disappear. They're always lighthearted. My favorite Mayday prank was when they took a photo of one of our monk faculty and taped his “missing monk” face onto all the miniature milk cartons in the student refectory.

In our own offices, we're always sticking random miniature sheep figurines, rubber chickens, or clown faces in each other's offices. My now-boss and I giftwrapped our supervisor's office for her birthday one year, and I once made a dummy to sit in my boss's chair when she was gone for a week on vacation. I think you have to assess the work culture - some offices like a little fun, and some are more formal.
