Salary range: $56,000-$65,000

Job Summary
The Development Officer is a key member of the All Stars Project (ASP) of New Jersey (NJ) and San Francisco Bay Area (SFBA) development teams that raise $1.5 million annually for our NJ operation and $700,000 annually for our SFBA operation. They will build and manage a portfolio of supporters at the $50-$2,500 level, work closely with the Senior Director of Development and Major Gifts Officer on foundation and corporate proposals and reports, support the NJ and SFBA annual campaigns, and help to manage logistics and campaigns for high level donor meetings, board meetings, and the NJ and SFBA annual benefits.
The Development Officer supports other specific needs of the fundraising work and the NJ and SFBA operations, including fundraising administration and the producing of key meetings, events, and campaigns. They work closely with development colleagues in all five All Stars regions, and are a member of the national fundraising team, foundation team and annual campaign team. The position is classified as “hybrid” and will work partially in the Newark, NJ office and partially from home in accordance with the ASP’s policies.
The position is a hybrid role and requires some in-person attendance in the ASP New Jersey regional office.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of individuals giving at the $50-$2,500 level, building relationships with these supporters, reaching and engaging them throughout the year with a focus to grow the NJ and SFBA philanthropic partnership donor base, increasing the number of members and their levels of support, through phone calls, email strategies, and in-person meetings.
- Produce NJ special events, including Board, Alumni (ALC), and Young Professional meetings, key donor meetings, cocktail receptions, and hands-on volunteer days for supporters, and complete post-event administrative activities.
- Support the NJ annual campaign, working closely with the Senior Director of Development, Major Gifts Officer and the National Annual Campaign Team, with a focus on learning strategy, coding and analyzing campaign outcomes.
- Produce NJ and SFBA-focused communications for our philanthropic partners, development email newsletters, special email announcements, new literature, and more.
- Assist in the research and writing of grant Letters of Interest (LOIs), proposals, and reports, with a focus on renewing and increasing foundation and corporate support and identifying new prospects and funding opportunities.
- Assist with the NJ and SFBA fall benefits and gatherings, collaborating with the sales director and event producer on key fundraising elements including outreach lists, invitations and emails, tracking, registration, reports and post-event activities.
- Manage NJ pledge collections, keeping track of monetary commitments and following up with supporters.
- Review supporter and gift information for accuracy.
- Support NJ and SFBA fundraising administration, which will include acknowledgment letter coordination, entering meeting notes into Raiser’s Edge, setting up NXT work centers for team members, and maintaining fundraising supplies and virtual files.
- Participate in projects with the national development team, including facilitating NJ and SFBA development team needs with national team members.
Qualifications
- Understanding of poverty-related issues and a commitment to creating opportunities for underserved youth in outside of school contexts
- Two years of experience in fundraising, preferably in individual giving, annual fund, or donor relations
- Proficient in planning, prioritizing, and organizing multiple tasks in a diversified workload
- Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
- Flexibility in schedule. Evenings are sometimes required for fundraising activities such as Board Meetings and events
- Proven administrative skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience in Raiser’s Edge NXT, AirTable, and MailChimp (or comparable CRMs and project management systems) preferred
- Strong writing skills; experience with writing and developing foundation and corporate grant proposals preferred
- Ability to interact and communicate professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Discretion and sensitivity in handling and safeguarding confidential information
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds, carry, or move objects to set up for meetings, events, workshops, etc.
