Remember the Quicken?

I remember, way back in the dark ages, the first “personal computer” software I ever used was Quicken. Quicken 1.0, to be quite honest. I was dating a computer programmer at the time and he bought a TRS-80. He got Quicken 1.0 (or whatever the very first version was called) and we used it to manage our bill paying.


Personal computers and any form of mass-produced software were very new at the time. Being a non-technical person back in 1990, I had to learn how to use the computer and the software—but that learning was only by reading the manual and hoping I didn’t mess up my banking. Remember, there was no online banking or even “online” at the time! I had to teach myself how to enter all my information and then print checks—using a dot-matrix printer.

Fast forward to 2020. I’m knee-deep in the Blackbaud University curriculum for Financial Edge NXT and writing a class about … printing checks!
