About the Foundation

The Tarleton State University Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization established to support the mission and strategic goals of Tarleton State University by managing and growing private resources. With oversight of a rapidly expanding $60+ million fund, the Foundation serves as an independent and accountable steward of donor contributions. The Foundation operates in close coordination and alignment with Tarleton State University but maintains separate governance and fiduciary responsibility.

Position Summary

The Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial integrity and operational success of a dynamic, rapidly growing organization. This position is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, meticulous recordkeeping, and adherence to established accounting standards. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of financial management.

At the same time, this role requires someone who thrives in an evolving environment. As the organization expands and its needs shift, the Accountant must be comfortable learning new systems, adapting processes, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. Curiosity, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process cash/check deposits and bank transfers.
  • Pay invoices, bills, and monthly credit card statements.
  • Maintain accurate schedules for audit purposes and prepare journal entries.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Run Raisers Edge reports and reconcile against internal records.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and Board.
  • Submit transactions via Board Effect for approval and maintain documentation.
  • Assist with endowment pledges and maintain accurate records.
  • Interface with donors and provide accurate and annual reporting.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Advancement to ensure accuracy of donor transactions.
  • Process fund transfers and prepare quarterly capitalization reports.
  • Upload investment reports and provide quarterly fee reports to University CFO.
  • Prepare for annual audits and work directly with auditors.
  • Reconcile investment reports and restricted accounts; manage temporary fund transfers.
  • Handle bookkeeping for the Alumni Association.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support Board Chair and Committee Chairs with meetings.
  • Work with Development Officers to ensure alignment of donor activities.
  • Ensure adherence to bylaws, policies, and audit requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Blackbaud products highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
