Unqualified Applicants and Additional Requirements

Hello everyone!

Here at Pasadena City College, we have a little problem that takes place every spring...I refer to it as "The Usual Suspects." Every year, undoubtedly, there's a core group of 5-10 students who apply to EVERYTHING, even when it's beyond obvious that they are not qualified.

During our fall cycle, this is not an issue, because it's a centralized process (just the Foundation Board committee selecting), and most of our opportunities are auto-match only.

In the spring this gets out of control...we have MANY apply-to opportunities and some very fickle faculty (not a bad thing) with regards to qualifications and courses taken, particularly in the sciences and languages.

Do any of you have this issue? How have you dealt with it? And do any of you require applicants to view a video or read a disclaimer prior to application?

Thanks so much - and have a lovely weekend!
