Disposing fixed assets

When I dispose of an asset, do I leave the disposal date that it puts in there for me- even if says 2003?

I do not leave the date that appears. I always change it to the date of the actual disposal since I want the books to reflect the correct date, especially if the asset isn't fully depreciated.
