Use Excel for simple merged letter

I am trying to use an Excel document rather than an NXT list to merge letters. Is it better/easier to use an .XLSX or .CSV file for this purpose? And is there a sample flow somewhere that I could use as reference?

@Reuben Schmitz I am sorry to not be able to provide a sample for you or much advice, but if you go the .xlsx route you will likely have to create a table as I believe most actions ask you to identify the table before getting access to any fields. Sorry to not be much help.
