Fixed Assets Module & Accounts Receivable Module

We have been using Excel to track our fixed assets and accounts receivable. We are rethinking this and would want to use both the fixed assets and the accounts receivable module. I need feedback from users currently using the two module. Please tell me the pros and cons, as well as it adaptability and user friendly usability.

We use both modules. Fixed assets is in both the database and NXT. I really like fixed assets in NXT! Very user friendly. The filtering is very nice in NXT. Adding assets is very easy in NXT and I can attach a copy of the invoice for the asset right there on the asset listing. The only thing I do in the database is post the monthly batch and print out some query reports. Entering the information in the database is easy but I think it's rather cumbersome versus NXT. Using the module is definitely much better than tracking assets through Excel.

The Accounts Receivable module is still in the database only but hopefully soon it will be in NXT. The AR database module is okay but since I was one of the clients testing the NXT version, I know that will be much nicer! We have 3rd party payers and the system tracks everything nicely. You can set up recurring invoices which is great too. When we started in 2016 AR was very confusing for us but we had an “antiquated” system so that may have been part of the problem. We also import invoices into the module from another software program which we use for attendance records. This is much better than using Excel to track AR.

We, too use both AR and Fixed Assets, and our experience mirrors that of LeeAnn's. The only thing I don't like about Fixed Assets is that it is difficult to make a change in the asset, once it's in place. For example, there have been times when we have had an additional cost to an asset after it has been put in place - or we want to dispose of just part of an asset - these changes are possible, but they are not easy.

I was also fortunate enough to “peek at” the AR module in NXT and am looking forward to that migration. AR in the database view is very cumbersome, in my opinion, and can be confusing while you are getting used to it. I don't know when the move to NXT for the AR module will be, but it won't be soon enough for me!

We use the AR module and, while a bit “clunky” in the database version only, we couldn't live without it. We use the recurring invoicing for all of our monthly tenants (we use a query to accomplish this) as well as some large annual invoicing that we do. I too await the day that AR is available in NXT - they are supposed to bring along the ability to email invoices and statements to customers - this would be huge for us. PROS: If your users are use to FE/ FE NXT screens this should be easy for them to adapt; Queries and reports are endless and make it easy to track what is overdue, upcoming, etc. CONS: Can't email invoices and statements without exporting to a pdf and manually emailing.

Our auditors (at one time) wanted the fixed assets tracked through a separate program so we use Best FAS to track our fixed assets and then at year end export those journal entries from Best to NXT.

Robin, Thank you for your post. Emailing invoices and statement would be awesome. I hope it doesn't become an audit issue on our end too.
