Attendance on smartphones?

I'm curious about the logistics that schools are using for teachers to take attendance. Are your teachers using their own smartphones? If so, what are the actual logistics to the process? Is there an app? or do they sign in using a web browser?

Can you tell us what your most tech-phobic teachers complain about? What are the biggest hurdles in using this system? We have historically used paper attendance sheets, for frame of reference.
