Frequent Message of "Access Denied" - Kicked from Blackbaud

All users at my company have been experiencing the same issue, however now it is occurring increasingly more often, possibly for hours at a time. No matter what browser we use, the web page we are using to navigate NXT suddenly comes up and says “Access Denied” the webpage is otherwise blank and then will need to close the browser and open a new instance. This issue has been going on for months but recently has been much worse. We have had multiple chats with support, but they do not seem to be able to solve the issue. Have tried using Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox with the same results.

Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Does it happen from home or other locations or just at your site? We're in the queue to migrate to NXT so I haven't experienced this directly but I've seen similar issues with other service providers and I traced it back to firewall settings blocking elements unintentionally.

  • It happens outside of the office using employee's home internet connections as well unfortunately. We have discussed the issue with our IT department to make sure firewall wasn't causing the issue.

  • We are having the same issue with staff working in the office and remote. Our IT Dept. is looking into it.

  • Yes we were getting an “Access Denied in a Restricted Area” message. They told us the following:

    While this is being evaluated, these are some steps that can be performed by an organization admin to try to resolve the error. Please see the instructions below:

    1. Log into FE NXT as a user with rights to Security.
    2. Select Control Panel>Security
    3. Select the Roles tab and add a new role to the Analysis or Financial tiles by clicking the plus icon
    4. Mark the appropriate rights to View, Add/Edit, or Delete
    5. Click Save
    6. On the Users tab, find the user
    7. Select the context menu beside the User and select Manage roles
    8. Mark the Analysis or Financial tile and select the newly created role
    9. Click save

  • We're not on FE NXT, but we are on RE NXT and have been experiencing similar issues with the same “Access Denied” message. Haven't really found a solution yet other than “Let's keep trying other browsers, opening and closing Chrome until it somehow works.”

  • We are having this issue with our intern. They have all the proper rights and haven't had this issue in prior years. They will be in the middle of entering distributions and get kicked out with the message of ‘Restricted Area’. It's unfortunate they lose their work at that point and need to start over, crossing their fingers they can get through the entry without getting the error.
