Filter active students only

is there a way to just get active students? I am using users/extended with roleId=14...was wondering if I need to cycle thru the academics students by section then only return the students in those sections...this could cause the return of a student multiple times if they are in multiple sections.

@Patricia Kearns - what do you mean by “active” student? Base role 14 will return only users with the Student role - not past or incoming students, and not alums.
