Prospect Status blank returns 404 error - Have an alternative?

Is there an alternative to get the Prospect Status that will avoid the 404 Not Found for Constituents that don't have a Prospect Status?

We have a list of constituents we loop through for APIs, and when there isn't a Prospect Status on the record, we get an error. Our workaround operates slowly, so we are trying to find an alternative.
