  • @JoAnne Thielen, yes, we received the same message. Apparently, the ability to post through DB view has been disabled, as of today. Through NXT, there's a menu option under General Ledger to Post Subledgers. Customer support said we were notified via newsletter on February 14, 2023 about this change, and though I found the newsletter, I didn't see the specific date and function mentioned, but I could be missing something.?‍♀️

    Angelina is likely right : wave 2 of the changes to DB view went out yesterday. Sounds like your organization may have been included. Here are the functions that may have changed, you can see it in the what's new from today on homepage of FENXT :

    Total web solution

    As we communicated to you earlier this year, in our commitment to deliver a total web solution, we are moving database view features completely into webview, with an initial focus on features that are less impactful to your day-to-day.

    We are delivering these updates progressively in parallel with new capabilities in webview, to continue to make this as seamless as possible for your organization! On April 12 we began "turning off" the following features in database view:

    General ledger processing

    VCO

    View system statistics

    Post

    Validate database

    Enter beginning balances

    Lock beginning balances

    Update fund transaction requirements

    Account Codes

    Fund Configuration

    Transaction Codes

    Tables

    Attributes

    Fields

    Interfunds

    Thanks for your response. I don't think either of us missed anything except this is part of the “we will be moving functions to web view over the next several months” ?

  • @JoAnne Thielen Thanks for sharing. We have not experienced this yet (likely because we use Accounts Receivable which is currently only available in database view). However, I can appreciate your frustration with the lack of communication from Blackbaud on the exact timing of things that impact daily operations. Many have asked for the details and Blackbaud is intent on not communicating them.

    @JoAnne Thielen I had the same issue today. I figured it had something to do with their update but it would have been nice to be warned the day ahead of it happening. Guess I'll be using the Cloud version more then I ever have now. I just find it more cumbersome then the database view is. But that's just my opinion.

  • @Kevin Brazell
    I saw this post unfortunately, that level of communication is not the most desirable and the instructions given with those “What's New” are not always accurate, nor do they work as outlined.

  • @Dan HoutReilly
    We also use Accounts Receivable, it will be interesting to see how that works int he coming days.

    @Kevin Brazell
    It would be good to know when these changes to DB view is distributed. You know let the paying customers know. Like actually send an email communication to the sites that are associated with the servers in the various phases. I mean NOBODY looks at the home and what's new unless something goes wrong. We all go into our Reports, GL, etc. You know like to do real work.

    I don't think we are against moving to the Total Web Solution, because that is the wave, but Jiminy Crickets, give us working stiffs a break and tell us.

    I guess I'm lucky to have been able to run and post my cheques before this closure. BTW, we haven't moved to the Web View for processing AP because it is slow vs using FAST. Yes, we have been processing AP in database view. I don't even know if my cheques will print properly!

    PLEASE tell us when you phase in those updates. That is all, you must know when your staff are phasing in those changes. So how hard is it to let the paid customers know?

    Why do we need to know? Because we need to plan and learn so we can make the transition to the Web View.

    @JoAnne Thielen

    Well, I guess this explains why it's not keeping my export file information. Why do they have to change the parts that actually work???

    Interestingly, it did let me post in the DB, it just makes me completely create a new file every time (and has been doing this for several weeks).

    @Paul Wu I do pretty much everything in the DB view (because, when you do data entry, it's the most logical place - I'm fairly sure the webview was designed by people who have never done actual data entry) but I do print my checks in the webview.

  • @kathy kreeger
    I'm still hopeful the webview improves it's data entry, as it's very inefficient for many things. In fact, it's gotten worse for us in the past 6 months. I lost the ability to tab between fields in A/P and journal entries. Support wasn't able to help.

    What do you mean that you can't tab between fields? Tab works for me. Arrow keys don't, but tab and shift-tab do. I am not doubting you, just curious. I do not do a lot of data entry in AP and for JE, I try to use the Excel import as much as possible.

  • @Sylvia Cook
    I should have been more specific. Maybe we can figure out a solution. Support wasn't able to.

    I'm on a Mac in Safari (Google Chrome works a bit better). In any distribution in A/P or Journal entry, the tab key doesn't take me between the fields in the distribution. Tab takes me out of the distribution area. Support said to turn on a checkbox in Safari preferences, “Press Tab to highlight each item on a webpage." Unfortunately, that kinda works, but then wrecks all other website forms. I guess I'm going to need to shift to Chrome so it works a bit better. Not ideal as I'll need to change my login authentication.

    Sorry for hijacking this tread.

  • @JoAnne Thielen We noticed that today as well when trying to post in database view. Support seems to be closed now so hopefully Blackbaud is working on it. I'm sure posting can be done in NXT but I'm a little old school, I prefer database view when posting.

  • @Mary Ann Nells
    We were told that posting subledgers is no longer an option in database view. You now have to post subledgers in web view. Fortunately, it has been working well for us.

    Sadly, they are not giving us specifics. They just do it and we are left wondering.

    @JoAnne Thielen
    I was disappointed in the message they put there. It does not in any way explain to users the activity is no longer possible in Database View, and to go to NXT to accomplish it. IMO, it would have been much more helpful to users to state something simple like…this function is no longer available in Database, it is available in NXT.
