Accelerator 101 - On demand classes Week 2 has me stuck

Hi All,

I am working my way through the on demand Accelerator 101 classes and I am trying to get through week 2 and I'm stuck. The flow we're working on is from an MS form where you're using the form to find a constituent and either create a new one, or add information from the form to an already existing constituent. The problem I keep having is that with every new form I submit (to test the workflow) it doesn't seem to be finding me in the RE database and it's creating a duplicate record. The form is only asking for first name, last name, and email. And I've checked that I'm not spelling my name or email wrong and they're correct in the database, but it's just not finding me. I've done it enough times that at this point I have to assume either something isn't connected right or there's something wrong with my flow. I have been able to successfully complete week 1s flow (post to teams) and also a large gift email flow (connecting to a current NXT gift list). I've watched the class 3 times now and followed along creating the flow while I go each time. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any feedback, I really thought it was going to be the approval step in Case 2 that messes me up, but I can't even get that far in because it just keeps creating new constituents.

First problem I notice is your search action, you are searching for “firstname lastname email” it seems. That's not going to work.

If you mouse over the “Search text” field, it tells you this:

The search text. Supports first name, last name, preferred name, former name, alias, email address, phone number, address, or lookup ID. Name combinations such as first name and last name or preferred name and last name are valid, but otherwise search only supports one parameter at a time. By default, searches include results that sound similar to your criteria. For example, searches for "Smith" include matches for "Smyth" and other alternative spellings. This search does not support wildcard characters such as * or ?. Search results are limited to 500 records.

Meaning, you can do “firstname lastname” or just email

A better search action exist, which you may want to use instead is:

This allows you to search “individual” field and you can put all 3 pieces of info into its respective field on the action to do the search

@Alex Wong Thanks so much for getting back to me! I ended up removing first name/last name and searching only by email. And it found me! And the approvals worked, which was surprising. Thanks so much!
