Editing multiple invoice on a single payment

I'm trying to edit the GL account on multiple invoices on one check (Paid, but NOT posted). I'm able to edit one invoice, but when I try to use the same check number for the other edited invoices I run into "Check number must be unique" Is there a way to edit multiple invoices from a single payment?

    @Lynda Misher once you pay an invoice(s) the distribution lines get locked, almost as if you've posted it. You have 2 choices : Void payment, edit the invoices, then repay the payment. Or Post the invoices, then go back and do an invoice adjustment / edit and post the adjustment.
