Procedure to import Journal entries from Excel Add in to FENXT

With Database view expiring, does anyone have a procedure on how to actually import a journal entry created in the Excel Journal Entry creator add in? The one video/demo I came across advised I refer to Help Resources-which did not provide instructions. HELP

    then click on create journal entry batch then click on sign in button

    you will be prompted to login to blackbaud account and then click Authorize

    if successful, your excel should look like this:

    fill in the information, then enter the description you want to use for the JE batch and click Submit

  • @Alex Wong
    Yes it showed connected and populated from my company's account number descriptions

    My question is that once I am in FENXT, how do I import the Add in into FENXT? I do not see an import option in FENXT when I am in the General Ledger/Journal Entry in FENXT. Thank you for your assistance and confirming I am moving on the correct path

    @Susan Dearborn
    you do not operate in FENXT.

    The moment you click “Submit” in Excel, the JE batch will try to be created. (if no error). in FENXT you will see the JE batch

  • @Susan Dearborn – Hi Susan – Omatic Software has a solution for this, that automates the importing of journal entries from Excel or other third-party sources into an open j/e batch in FE NXT. The solution leverages the SKY API and is 100% Blackbaud-compliant. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more. Many thanks.

    Thank you Alex. I understand what you are explaining and was able to accomplish that. Now..do you know if there is a way to create “templates” that I can use each month and just update the dates/amounts/debit & credits?

  • @Stu Manewith
    Thank you for reaching out, Stu. Does this option also provide the use of templates that can be updated each month?

    @Susan Dearborn
    There's no “template” per sey, it's an excel file, so you can just save an excel file that has all the “static” columns of data, then fill in what you need to change each time, and copy down for all other “static” columns.

    but when you connect using the addin, you will need to copy the data over from your excel to this specially configured sheet before submitting.

    Hi Susan – one thing that many of us really like about FE NXT is that the journal entry itself is so standard.

    Omatic's Post-to-GL tool for FE NXT allows you to have different templates (we call them ‘formulas’) for different data sources (ie, different Excel spreadsheets with different data from different sources), configured to align with FE NXT's standard j/e requirements.

    It's expected that the data itself will change from month to month (or from posting period to posting period). If the file format or columns change, there may be some minor adjustments needed to be made to the ‘formula’.

    You can have as many different formulas as needed for your different j/e data sources. Many thanks.

    @Alex Wong If there's an error on submit; how do you change the formulas in a Column, Column G for example ‘Journal’. I keep getting an error and BB chat said it has to match the capitalization in my JOURNAL table. The current formula does not match that capitalization. Every time I update the formula to use all CAPS, the cell just shows me the formula, not the choice of the IF that should now be all CAPS.

    @Nancy Agan
    That column does not need to be formula. Just type (copy paste) in exactly what Journal dropdown you have in your FE instance.
