Donor Fee Workaround for the 3.5% AMEX default?

Has anyone figured out a workaround so that donor's cover the actual fee of their credit card? In a previous role I used SmartDONORCOVER with Online Express Forms within RE. The 3.5% Amex default for the DIY Form donor cover makes me sad. I would prefer they defaulted to Visa/MC so at least we would get most covered if they used Amex but not take advantage if they have Visa/MC. Going to check the idea bank now!
