What credit cards is everyone using?

We are still looking for a credit card vendor one whose feeds connects to FE NXT. Any advise would be appreciated!!!

  • @Angela Tuttle Bumping this up so you get some replies!

Blackbaud does offer purchase cards, if you're interested in learning more about those. I'll drop that link below and let other folks chime in on what they use!

We use South State Bank's VISA and BB has been working for over a year to try to connect them to the feed. I was thinking of trying Bank of America figuring a larger bank's cards might work. Hopefully someone will chime in.

  • @Sarah Curry, I checked out the link to the Blackbaud Purchasing Cards and noticed it said “US only”. Does that mean they cannot be used for international purchasing or travel?

  • @Sarah Curry The Blackbaud cards will not work for us since we need so many. We use around 70 cards and my understanding is that is too many for the Blackbaud cards. That may be too many in order to link through Yodlee in general. I am working with support to get connected with our current Truist cards but we may switch cards. I would love to come up with a credit card solution through Blackbaud instead of using a 3rd party. So if anyone has something that is working I would love to know!!

I have talked to a few people about RAMP.

We need something that will connect to FE NXT and card holders can take pictures and upload receipts.

  • @Angela Tuttle @Cheri Martin - Here are a few answers to your questions! Thanks for your patience as I confirmed information!

    • Blackbaud purchase cards are the only ones that we can guarantee will connect into FENXT via the API integration. All other vendors have to connect in via Yodlee, and we can't guarantee those/it can change
    • I don't think there is a limit on # of cards from Regions (provider of the Purchase Cards). You may be thinking of Yodlee's limit on how many cards can be linked up successfully under one parent account?
    • “US only” means the organization needs to be based in the U.S., but you can still use the card for international purchasing or travel. Visa does apply an international transaction fee. It appears that is 1%, but this could change with their umbrella terms for all credit cards.

Hi Sarah, We use BILL which our cardholders love, all 129. They can take pictures and upload receipts. At the end of each monthly cycle we download all of the transactions and upload them into a JV to post to the GL.

  • @Angela Tuttle We were using Chase since it connected with the credit card feed, but it never worked correctly from day 1. We have since switched to BILL and LOVE it. Yes, it creates a little more work for Finance on the back end. However, the engagement and user experience from card holders has definitely been worth the extra work on my end.

  • @Sarah Curry
We are currently using RAMP credit cards on a very limited basis as we are still working on a fix between RAMP and Blackbaud so that we can import the RAMP journal entry into Blackbaud. As soon as RAMP gets back with their recommendation/fix, I will report it here. The RAMP credit cards are easy to use, and easy to upload the backup/receipts from the cardholder's smartphone. Our few test users really like RAMP. Unfortunately, we've had to manually enter the transactions into Blackbaud each “end of month”.

  • @Angela Tuttle we recently switched from American Express cards to the BB Purchasing Cards through Regions Bank. We switched because the American Express card transactions would only sometimes (and for different cards at different times) come through the feed successfully. Transactions would sometimes even duplicate in the feed. It was just a mess. We worked for about a year with BB customer service with no success. It was very frustrating. We finally gave in and switched to the Regions Cards with our main goal being to get the feed to successfully work. We've been using Regions cards for about a month and half and so far all transactions have come through (and only once each…phew). There was some confusion with our first time logging into Regions and then setting users up and now we're having difficulty connecting a new card, so definitely hasn't been without its own frustrations, but it's working much better than the Amex cards ever did. We had spoken to a few other BB customers prior about their experience with the Pcards and I recall one having at least 40 cards. I don't recall anyone ever mentioning a limit to the number of cards, but users did mention higher instances of fraud on the Pcards, so with so many cards, that might be a concern.

  • @Katy Ripp This is good to know!! Thank you!! The fact that you have heard of someone having 40 cards is promising. Are you using Expense Manager in FE for the credit cards?

  • @Marie Scheurich I talked to someone at RAMP a few months back and I really liked them. Yes please report back once the import gets set up. Is it an import into Journal Entry or Accounts Payable?

  • @Patricia Nowak New question are you using expense manager in FE to enter any of your invoices/check requests?

  • @Angela Tuttle Our credit card transactions feed into FE through the Payables module under “credit card activity” where users can enter the details and attach supporting documentation and then submit for approval. Once approved, we click a button to record, which pushes the transactions to the subledger and then we post the AP subledger. It's great when the feed works and so far with the Regions cards, the feed has worked with no issues. When our feed wasn't working with the Amex cards, we were using Expense Management and having users enter their charges manually, like an invoice, and then they went through the approval flow there…just a little more work on the front end for users when the charges aren't feeding directly into the system and you have to hope they are capturing them all whereas the feed ensures (as long as it's working) that all charges are coming through. Of course, you catch anything unsubmitted through your reconciliation. Hope that helps!

  • @Angela Tuttle
We previously used AMEX, but when Yodlee went haywire and quit working correctly, we changed to Blackbaud's CC, which is Regions Bank Visa. They seem to be working well.
