Cash receipts linked to a donor vs using Accounts receivable deposit

Right now we have to track our unsolicited donations as an Account receivable deposit so we can link the donation to the person in FENXT to be able to send a donation letter at year end. In doing this we have to create an invoice to remove the AR off the aging report. We would like to be able to enter these donations as a Cash receipt deposit and be able to link it to the person/Client so we will be able to create the year end donation letter to our donors without the extra step of creating an invoice to do so. Does anyone have a solution to this or similar situation you have been able to work through?
