GET TO KNOW A NINJA
Each week, we aim to bring you a little closer to one of our Blackbaud Community super users (AKA Ninjas). This week, we would like to introduce Jan Brand, director of Foundation Operations at Springpoint Senior Living. Jan is a blue Community ninja, a Blackbaud Champion, and is Blackbaud Certified® in Organizational Best Practices and has Professional level certification for Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT®.

What area are you in (geographically) and why do you love it?
I live on the Jersey Shore in Central New Jersey, home of Bruce Springsteen! I love it because the beach is my happy place. Throughout the year, if I need a little therapy I can be at the beach in a few minutes. Being at the beach is very calming and relaxing to me.
What do you enjoy about the Blackbaud Community?
I love the wealth of information that is available, but my favorite part is the willingness of colleagues around the world to help each other. I love to read other’s opinions on different topics and to look at issues from their different perspectives.
What is something that you never thought you would enjoy at your current job that gets you up and motivates you now?
I have always been a database person. I spent most of my time behind a computer screen. At my current job, beyond Raisers Edge and gift management, I also conduct programs for our affordable housing residents. Our company owns 19 communities for seniors living below the poverty level. We fill food pantries, provide fresh produce, transportation, and social programs. I never thought I would enjoy the program side of development, but I am completely enjoying it. Knowing I made a difference in our residents’ lives is both heartwarming and humbling. It gets me going every day!

I don't have the badge, but I think it's because I lost all my old badges when I changed jobs - I've been here since about 2012-13 though, even if I don't have the public badge!

I have been enjoying this Community and can't believe it has only been five years since I have been a Raiser's Edge user for 19 years. Happy Birthday. @Jan Brand - I love the Jersey Shores even if my children prefer Maryland beaches

I'm pretty sure i joined the Community at my previous job. I think it was 5+ years ago…I've had a lot of life happen in between ?

Note to all members who have been in community 5+ years, but don't have the Loyalty badge yet - if you changed emails at any time during the last 5 years, the system won't have you as being here for 5 years, so just let us know and we'll badge you
