Blackbaud’s Education Management Solutions: What’s New For September 13, 2022

Here are all of the latest changes, updates, and new features for the Education management products for September 13th, 2022.

Academics

See waitlist totals on class list

For schools using Waitlists, the Classes list can show the number of students on a waitlist for each class in a new Number waitlisted column.
The new column does not appear by default on the Classes list, so you will have to add it manually. Go to Scheduling and select Classes list. Build a new list or open an existing one, then open the Columns menu and select Number waitlisted. Select Apply changes to add it to the list. As enrollments and waitlists are modified during the scheduling process, the figures in this column will be updated every 10 minutes.
Select the Number waitlisted column header to sort the list in descending order. Select it again to sort in ascending order. Use the context menu beside a class name to edit its enrollment, or manage waitlists by going to Scheduling, Course selection and schedules, and opening the Waitlists tab. Full or abbreviated performance subcategories on transcripts

Transcripts can display academic performance subcategories with either their full descriptions or abbreviations.
In the Transcript Builder, on the Design form, add or edit an Academic performance area on the transcript template. You will now see two options under Display value using. Select Subcategory name or Subcategory abbreviation.
To add or edit abbreviations for academic performance subcategories, go to Grades, Grading setup, and select the Calculations tab. Add or edit a performance calculation. Abbreviations appear beside subcategories under the column header *Abbr. For more information about setting up academic performance categories, see the help topic Create Grade Calculations & Rank.

Clock hours field for classes

When editing a class, the Class details area now includes a field called Clock hours. This field accepts numeric values only and supports decimals.
To use this feature, go to Scheduling, Course selection and schedules, then open the Manage classes tab. Select the context menu beside a Course, then Manage classes. The Clock hours field appears in the Class details area.
This feature will be relevant for U.S. schools of higher education when reporting data to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). For more information on IPEDS reporting, see The IPEDS Guide.

Find a section in Edit Student Enrollment

On the Edit student enrollment screen, the Find a section button now includes a + icon to make it stand out. The functionality remains the same.

No limit on sections displayed in Find a section

On the Edit student enrollment screen, there is no longer a limit on the number of classes that can display when using Find a section. Previously the limit was set to 50 rows.

Core

Blackbaud ID: Migrate by September 27, 2022

Platform managers should migrate users to Blackbaud ID via the links on the Core home dashboard. They can also export user lists for use in mail merges and other communications.
Ensure your school’s users are on BBID by September 27, 2022.
Authenticating with Blackbaud ID:

ensures an even more secure authentication process,
enables users to further enhance security by enabling multi-factor authentication through text messages or mobile authenticators,
enables users to login to multiple Blackbaud solutions and support resources with a single username and password,
enables users to login with “social authentication” via Google’s authentication requirements, password resets, and other support needs,
enables users to help themselves reset forgotten passwords, rather than platform managers needing to provide tech support for forgotten passwords,
enables schools to enable an optional SSO for any roles they prefer, so that those users sign in with the school’s identity providers and the school can then manage the users in their claimed domains.

Enforce Blackbaud ID Requirement (Opt-In to EAP)

Platform managers can select to join the early adopter program (EAP) which forces all users to log in with Blackbaud ID (BBID) before it’s required for all schools.
From Core, select Security, select Blackbaud ID authentication, select Enforce Blackbaud ID authentication, and finally select Enforce to confirm you want to join the EAP.
When you enforce BBID, all users, regardless of their security role, will be required to log in with Blackbaud ID.
During the EAP, you can revert and opt out to stop enforcing BBID. However, later this year, it will still be enforced for all schools, all users, and all security roles, as previously announced.

Subscribe to “What’s New”

To receive email notifications when the What’s new update appears, make sure to subscribe to the Higher education community’s blog by logging into the community site and selecting the Subscribe button.
To manage your community subscriptions:

Log into the community and locate your name and profile picture in the upper right corner.
Select the drop-down arrow and select My Account.
From the My Account page, select the Subscriptions tab and scroll down to the Blogs section.
Locate Blackbaud Higher Education solutions Blog. If you want to be notified as soon as the What’s new content goes live on the community, select the Instant option. You can also opt for Daily and Weekly notifications.
Scroll to the end of the page and select Save changes.
