Venmo Now Available For Select US Customers

We're thrilled to announce that Venmo is now available as a payment method to a “first wave” of Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT and Blackbaud Online Express customers in the United States.


Organizations that had an active Blackbaud Merchant Services – PayPal integration set up prior to mid-February 2022 are included in this first wave.


When the PayPal integration is enabled, the Venmo payment method will automatically display as a one-time gift payment option on forms that use Blackbaud Checkout.

In Blackbaud Checkout, Venmo offers:

• Standard OneRATE (2.8% + $0.26) for Venmo transactions
• Support for one-time gifts in US dollars
• Funds disbursement by PayPal to your organization’s PayPal Business account

How do I see the Venmo transactions?

On gift records, in reports, and in batches, Venmo transactions show as PayPal in the Payment method field. To view and reconcile Venmo and PayPal transactions, and to view disbursements, log into your PayPal Business account.

When will Venmo (and PayPal) become more widely available?

We will continue to roll out Venmo in the United States, making it available at a future date to organizations that create new PayPal integrations with Blackbaud Merchant Services.


US organizations can follow the steps in the PayPal Integration Setup Guide to begin using PayPal immediately and Venmo as a future US payment option for Blackbaud Checkout transactions.

We had PayPal integration setup prior to mid February and Venmo is not showing up as an option - only PayPal

Since the payment method will show up as PayPal is there any way to differentiate as to whether it is a PayPal or Venmo transaction? Does the report in your PayPal business account give you this information?

Do donors have to use our online donation form to use Venmo - or can they access our organization from their Venmo app?

Hi, @Andrea White your organization should have been included in the group of customers that was activated for Venmo. Our Support team is looking into why it is not populating. You can close the loop with them by putting in a ticket (if you haven't already). If they have any questions, you can refer them to me ?

Hi, @Karen Stuhlfeier donors need to use your donation form to give with Venmo. (They'll also need to have a Venmo account to be able to pay with Venmo.)

PayPal just completed their work to differentiate the PayPal vs Venmo transaction detail. Now that their data feed to us includes this additional level of detail, our team is scoping the work needed to add it to RENXT; we don't have a timeline yet.

We had been looking forward to getting the PayPal option in our OLX forms, but we're holding off on adding it because the donors wouldn't be able to cover the transaction fees. Is this feature going to be available with PayPal in the future?

Hi, Jenna - The option that exists right now for donors to cover the transaction fees with OLX (and use PayPal) is the free add-on from Blackbaud partner SmartTHING. @Austen Brown, you've used this, right - any comments on how this works?

Hi Jenna - Check out the thread linked below for more information on how SmartTHING's Donor Cover add-on for OLX works (recommend you read bottom to top). This free add-on will work for any donation given through an OLX donation form, including those processed via PayPal.
