Progression Entries-The Part They Play In Setting Up The New Academic Year
Student Progression Entries may not take up very much space on a record, but they are tremendously important in the system. While it may not seem necessary to create Student Progression Entries for a school year that hasn't even begun, adding these to records as early as February can help you get a head start on next year’s Scheduling and Billing.
A Student Progression Entry tells the system that a particular student will be enrolled at your school for a specific year in a specific grade. It looks like this:
These entries tell us that student John Michael Anderson was enrolled in the Pepperworth Upper School in 2012-2013 as a 9th grader, as he has re-enrolled for every consecutive year. It also tells us that he will be a student in the 2015-2016 year, even though that school year has not started. Years 2012-2013 through 2014-2015 are grayed out and 2015-2016 is not. This tells us that Information has been entered (course, grading, attendance) for these years, but information other than the Progression Entry is not present for the 2015-2016 year. If a student is progressed but at a later date decides not to re-enroll, the Progression Entry can be deleted as long as any course requests, grades, or attendance related to that student are removed first.
Student Progression Entries can be added in three ways:
- The Enroll Applications Wizard (This is done for applicant records only. If a student record already exists, the Enroll Application wizard should not be run for that person.)
- The Mark for Re-enrollment Wizard (This allows for all current and returning students to receive a progression entry for the new year)
- Manually
Once Student Progression Entries are added to student records then you are able to enter Course Requests through the Education Edge or NetClassroom Registration, students can be enrolled in classes (as long as the classes have been created) and Billing can take place. Ultimately, the earlier those students are provided a progression entry, the easier it is to get a head start on the setup for the following school year.
