1. How is a navigation menu similar to a family tree?
On your website, you determine which pages appear in a navigation menu. Within each menu, there are levels of pages (i.e., Level 1 pages, Level 2 pages, Level 3 pages). Pages in these levels all have a relationship to one another and, similar to family structure, are referred to as Parent pages, Child pages, and Sibling pages.
2. Name three things for which you could use a Landing Page.
Landing Pages are standalone pages that are not part of a navigation menu. In order to access these page types, you must provide users with the specific URLs. For that reason, Landing Pages are perfect for special events (such as auctions or campaigns), for specific audiences (such as alumni or parents), and for creating alternate versions of your home page.
3. Why is a Page Content Area important?
When you create a new page, you must select which Master Layout (or framework) you want to use on that page. Each Master Layout must have at least one Page Content Area. This is the section in which you will add the content that will differ from page to page (for example, you might build two pages that use the same Master Layout, but one page may contain information about your school’s awards and accolades while the other page may contain information about your school’s athletic teams).
4. Why do I see so many blue lines in the background when I edit a page?
The width of your onMessage website will vary, depending on what type of device someone is using (for example, your website will automatically be much wider on a large desktop than on a tablet). Underlying this responsive web design is a grid structure in which each page comprises 24 grid lines. When you add rows and columns to a page, you will specify how wide the columns should be by choosing how many grid lines they should contain. For information about how wide grid lines and columns are on different devices, please refer to the onMessage Page Widths article in the Blackbaud Knowledgebase.
