Challenge Accepted – Cleansing The Blackbaud Student Information System Curriculum
Michelle Grant
Last year I completed a 30-day clean eating challenge. And yes, I made it out alive. Thank you, thank you. Ok, ok, back to the real reason I’m expressing my success…
Anytime I went out to eat, which was rare, I wished every single restaurant served only the items I
wanted
—or should I say only items I
should
eat. After all, the menus always listed A TON of options I
wanted
to order, but only a few I
should
order. Seeing only a list of things I knew I
should
eat would have made my ordering process so much easier!
So, here at Blackbaud University, we decided
let’s do that for our K
–12 Blackbaud Student Information System curriculum!
Let’s restructure our classes to base the content on typical roles at schools so everyone can take classes based on their own needs or to-do lists. Some people set up the system, some people manage the system after it’s set up, some people enter data into the system, and of course, some of you
database rock stars
do all of these things!
Thus, we have our newest Blackbaud Student Information System curriculum:
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Optimizing Schedule Configurations
Learn how to strategize and prepare your site for both manual and automatic scheduling.
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Building Class and Student Schedules
Learn how to build your class and student schedules each year – manually and/or automatically creating and adding class sections, teachers, rooms, and finally, enrolling students.
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Configuring Administrative Tasks
Learn how to strategize and setup attendance, official notes, conduct, learning profiles, and medical in your student information system
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Supporting Daily Faculty Tasks
Learn how to help your faculty enter data, manage data entered, and analyze or review student information.
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: A Day in the Life of a Teacher
Learn how to locate students, view learning profiles, submit attendance, record term grades, report infractions, and compose official notes, and more!
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Grading
Learn how to perform the initial setup of grading, manage final grades entered, and print report cards and/or transcripts.
Good news for Blackbaud Learn® training subscribers! If your school has a Learn More subscription, these class are included. Not a subscriber? Find out how a

can help develop efficiency and build skills for every user of your system.

How do I know which classes I have taken and which are new? I took all of the Core, On Record and On Campus in the previous system but it looks like there might be some new one? Also are there any advanced ones?
Michelle Grant
Hi Michelle, great question! If you go to Training Central and check out your transcript - you can see the list of classes you've taken. The two classes that you may have already taken are K-12 onRecord: A Day in the Life of a Teacher, and K-12 onRecord: Grading. The other four classes listed were released in January of this year (2019). While the content of our four newest classes may share topics with the other classes you've taken - these four new courses are Outcome-based which means they can help tie the content back to how you do things at your school. I suggest signing up for any of the courses that involve the tasks you complete - as you'll notice the content has been updated. The two classes geared towards a Database Admin or anyone responsible for the setup of the site are:
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Optimizing Schedule Configurations
and
K–12 Blackbaud Student Information System™: Configuring Administrative Tasks.
I hope this information helps!
Nancy Gervais
Always happy to learn something new. Checking on what I haven't taken yet.
