Introducing Bill Me Later for Pledges: More Flexibility for More Donors

Prioritized based on Idea Bank votes and customer feedback, Blackbaud recently enabled a new payment option on Standard Donation Forms in Online Giving in Raiser’s Edge NXT® to allow donors to submit a pledge without a payment method.

Why It Matters

By offering a “Bill Me Later” option, organizations can make the donation process more flexible, accommodating donors who prefer to commit to a pledge now and arrange payment at a later date. This can encourage more donors to participate, especially those who may not have immediate access to payment information or funds, thus increasing potential revenue and supporting long-term fundraising goals.

How It Works

When a donor selects “Bill Me Later,” no payment information is collected. A new pledge will go into Raiser’s Edge NXT’s Gift Batch for review, and then the organization can work with the donor to collect pledge payments in the future.

This flexibility not only enhances the donor experience, it also improves your organization’s ability to manage and forecast incoming funds. As donors are empowered to pledge without immediate payment, your organization can build a stronger pipeline of committed supporters and nurture ongoing relationships.

What’s Next

Coming soon, Blackbaud plans to release the ability for donors to make a pledge payment in the Raiser’s Edge NXT Donor Portal. Combined with this new “Bill Me Later” feature, donors will soon be able to manage and fulfill their pledges directly online. For example, any “Bill Me Later” pledge would show up as an available pledge payment in Portal, allowing donors to make payments on these pledges.

This seamless connection between the “Bill Me Later” option and Portal payment tools will further increase convenience, transparency, and donor engagement, strengthening your organization's overall fundraising ecosystem.
