Journal Entry Approval and editing

I do not understand why a journal entry can be edited after it has been approved! What prevents someone going into the entry and changing it in between being approved and being posted, when the approver and the poster are two different people? That seems to limit the usefulness of the approval. Also, if someone does edit a journal entry after it has been approved, why does the status not automatically revert to Pending Approval? How would someone know if a journal entry had been altered in between the approval and the posting without this requirement?

If you’re open to it, I’d recommend submitting this as an idea in the Ideas Bank, specifically around journal entries becoming read‑only after approval (or reverting to Pending Approval if edited). I did a quick search and found an existing idea related to editing attachments on journal entries, but nothing that speaks directly to editing the journal entry itself after approval. The Ideas Bank gives other customers the opportunity to vote and share how they handle similar processes, and Product Managers regularly review both ideas and votes to help inform future product enhancements and updates.

@Jenny O'Neill you have the option to delete them, if you'd like to clean up the list but I definitely agree with Crystal's recommendation on submitting an idea bank entry for that 'inactive' stage.
