Blackbaud’s latest online giving feature nudges donors to complete a donation, helping your organization improve form completion and capture more intended gifts.

Donors may begin a gift with every intention of completing it, but distractions, interruptions, or uncertainty can cause them to leave before finishing. Abandoned donation reminders support the giving experience by making it easy for donors to return to where they left off and complete their gift when the moment is right.

Now available as a new website component to pages with embedded Optimized or Standard Donation Forms, abandoned donation reminders give organizations an easy way to re-engage donors who start a gift but leave before completing it. Your organization can automatically display, on any page that has the loader script, a helpful reminder that encourages donors to return and finish their gift. It’s a simple, donor-friendly way to reduce form abandonment, improve completion rates, and capture more intended revenue.

To add an abandoned donation reminder to your website, visit the Website Components section in Online Giving.

  • We are experiencing some issues with this feature and were wondering if it's possible to customize the reminder message.

Currently, the reminder pulls in the pre-selected gift amount from our donation form, which doesn't work well for our organization. For example, our default suggested donation is $100. If a visitor lands on the donation page and then leaves without making a selection, the reminder message says, "Are you ready to complete your $100.00 donation?" This could be confusing or off-putting, as the donor may not have intended to give that amount or may not understand where the dollar amount came from.

Additionally, if a donor selects "Other," enters $0.00, and then leaves the page, the reminder message reads, "Are you ready to complete your $0.00 donation?" This creates an awkward user experience.

Before I ask our website manager to disable this feature, I wanted to check whether there are any planned updates that would allow for greater customization of these reminder messages.

    Thank you!

Hi Ellen, Thank you for the feedback.

For donors who leave the form without interacting with it, the reminder uses the form's default gift amount. In your example, the $100 amount is expected behavior because it is the pre-selected donation amount on the form. We understand that this may not always reflect donor intent, and we encourage you to submit this idea to the Blackbaud Idea Bank so our product team can evaluate demand for additional customization options.

Regarding the "$0.00 donation" scenario, that appears to be an edge case and does not provide an ideal donor experience. We've shared this feedback with our product team for review.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your observations. Feedback like this helps us continue improving the feature.

  • Hi Mike,

I don't seem to have the Website Components option under Online Giving. Would that be a security rights issue that I need to contact my Blackbaud admin for or is the feature not available yet to all customers?

    Thank you!

Hi @Stella Limuel , Everyone should have Website Components, so it may be a security/permission issue if you are not a Blackbaud Apps admin (note - this is different than a RENXT admin).  If you're still having trouble I would recommend contacting our Support Team. I'm sorry for your troubles and hope they get resolved quickly.

  • My Blackbaud Admin said the documentation on the help page does not exactly match, but she managed to figure it out. Thank you so much!
