Good Morning Everyone,
Through the SKY API I can create a spousal relationship with the type, reciprocal type, start date, spouse flag and head of household in a single POST, and the reciprocal record is created plus mirrored automatically. Every field on the relationship edit form is reachable except one: "Automatically soft credit this individual for gifts."
It is not in RelationshipAdd or RelationshipEdit, and the only mention of soft credits anywhere in the Constituent API is the read-only total_soft_credits which aggregate on lifetime giving.
Recording the network traffic while saving that checkbox in the web view shows the value travelling as soft_credit_gifts: true on the same relationship record, alongside is_spouse, is_head_of_household and the relationship type IDs all of which SKY API does expose.
There are about 13 values that exist for GET that do not exist for PATCH on a constituent. An example is type I tried to forcibly change a record from an individual to an org, but I can't. Then, for relationships it seems on the relationship edit form that the soft credit value is the only one you can't GET nor PATCH. Which seems to be an oversight?
- The above is an example of everything I could do via SKY API - including adding notes and an end date for the relationship, though not visible in this screenshot.
I even went deep enough to find the network settings on my Microsoft Edge, record for when I clicked on 'automatically soft credit this individual for gifts' and can confirm that there is some internal API that is not SKY API that registers the value, but unfortunately, we cannot GET nor PATCH this value:
- See the red arrow? That is the value that is edited via the relationship pop-up in the earlier screenshot but through the web, and not SKY API.
- The practical impact of this is on bulk household remediation. A client with thousands of unlinked spousal pairs can have them created programmatically, but everyone will have soft crediting to be turned off, and there is no API way to set it or even to report on which existing relationships have it enabled.
- I tried to PATCH using these different versions, just in case this wasn't documented, but none worked:
- soft_credit_gifts
- auto_soft_credit
- is_soft_credit
- All three of the above values returned 200, but none changed the value. I even PATCHed comment in the same session, and it worked.
Has anyone found a supported way to set this? If not, should I raise it as an Idea Bank request? Adding soft_credit_gifts to RelationshipAdd and RelationshipEdit would close the last gap in relationship automation.
Thanks for reading and I welcome any thoughts!
Edit: If this value is still editable en-masse via database view, maybe that is the solution until they add this into the SKY API? Going to be testing in db view to see if the above is possible.
